Notre-Dame-de-Nazareth cathedral and cloister

The Cathedral:
One of the cathedral's attractions is the presence of ancient remains that were reused during its construction, as evidenced by the Roman architectural blocks in the foundations of the chevet. Its sobriety and massive appearance, marked by few openings, its vaults, arches and sculpted decoration inspired by antiquity are all elements that reveal a fine example of Provençal Romanesque art. Highlights of the 12th-century reconstruction include the beautiful octagonal dome on trumpets, featuring the symbols of the four evangelists: Matthew's angel, Luke's ox, John's eagle and Mark's lion, as well as the vaults of the nave and side aisles.

The Cathedral Cloister:
The 11th- and 12th-century cloister and garden, a place of peace
of peace, serenity and light, with its openwork galleries of arches
columns and capitals, was at the heart of the buildings of the buildings housing the canons. In the interior, lapidary features include a fragment of a chancel, a marble a 4th-century marble sarcophagus depicting the 12 apostles, a double-sided cross (Christ and Virgin Mary). Even more enigmatic an engraving of a head with horns and bacchantes, in the center of a door lintel,
raises questions: a Byzantine face reminiscent of Christ?
